Mediocre colouring attempt from me. Looks waaaay like most other people's here. I need to develop my own style. Doesn't do 's lineart justice. Still, this can prove that I can do a CG in less than a day (5 hours ^-^)

This is part of a collab I'm doing with where we each CG another's lineart. Seems good in pratice, but mine really turned out crappy. Hopefully (well, more likely) his will fair better. :) He's CGing: [link]

(WOOT! Looks like I CGed before he did. Ha!! I CAN CG quickly if I want (but poorly T-T))

Well, I'm beat. I have to wake up early, so I'll leave it at this :D

You can c&c this, but in reality, I didn't do a really good job with it to begin with. The light source and shadows were done on a whim. Basically: "hmm that shodow looks good here, and this one is good here. Screw light source! I'm doing it this way!!!" :P If you can, please leave any CG tips.

Painter 8 (he bulk of the work) & Photoshop 6 (for all the stuff painter is too slow to do, or is just crap at)

i'd say this piece looks fairly bland because of the lack of vibrant colours.

- when you look at it, there doesn't appear to be anything that catches my eyes. the girl's shirt colours looks similar to the guy's shorts as well as the background.

- lighting source doesn't appear to be coming from anywhere. perhaps since they're fighting over the tv remote, the tv could be the source of the lighting? and perhaps it could be a darker room too, since the tv is the only light. i'm not saying it should be black all around, but just some vibrant colours on their clothing before it fades away into the darkness and mixes in with the couch and wallpaper.

- the fold lines could've been at least coloured in a darker tone, along with the couch so they actually look like folds, not just leftover lineart.

- their skin is highly unusual, on one side we have a guy who's got a full tan whereas the girl looks like she never goes outside.

sorry for the C&C but i'm just not overly happy with the result

Yer. I said that already. I just did everything based on if I liked how it turned out.

Damn. How the...?! WTF?! Am I that transparent?!

Well, the one thing I did like was the skin. It showed off individuality of the characters, while still harmoniously keeping consistant.

No worries with the crits. I was asking for it anyway when I posted this up. Maybe I'll have another crack at it tomorrow. (PS has niffty editing :D)

you are freekin crazy in the head hpop! i t looks brilliant! i absolutely love it! i really dig the unsaturated colours, it's something i so wouldn't have done because i always o.d. my stuff on vibrancy, but i think it suits this pic nicely. i also really like how your lowest level of shading is that consistant dirty pink colour. it works very well, especially on her legs. the painting texture is great too, especially the background. i gots to get me painter i think...

only critcism i have is that the skintones are a little far apart. taking into account the subdued palette of the rest of the pic, the blokes' skin is a little intense. also they should be swapped, the chick is a model and the guy is a bum... but you weren't to know that :D

but yeah, regardless, i'm really happy with this. thanks so much mate! it's always awesome to see someone elses approach to colouring your stuff.

Hahaha. Hey! I forgot to CG the lines on the pants. :doh:

Painter is a good program, but PS is good too. It's just easier to make it look paint like in painter. Expensive like hell, but it's well worth it.

Thanks. Knowing about the skin tones woulda been nice to have known ;P Ironically, the guys skin tones where the ones that started off as the worst thing of the entire CG, but ended up looking the best at the end. Weird.

You did an awesome job with mine (like always), so the feelings mutual :D

hey, if you have the artwork at a bigger size, would you mind whipping me up an 1152x864? i want to use it as a wallpaper :D

i'm thinking about extending the ffx pic into a wallpaper too, i think it would work well set to the right with a massive slab of blue on the left.
